Suryadev came here to see the pastimes of Lord Krishna that is why it is called Surya Kund. The Kund finds mention in scriptures. The water of Kund is divine & has curative properties. It is believed that disease like leprosy gets cured by taking a dip in this Kund.
In the middle of the Kund, there is a large Island, where there are lots of ancient trees. Thousands of migratory birds come here annually from all over the world.
This Kund is surrounded by several old temples like Bihari Ji Temple, Mukund Madhav Temple, Hanuman Ji’s Bagichi, Narayani Devi’s Temple & Durga Mata’s Temple. Near the Kund, there is an ancient Banyan tree under which several sages have done meditation.
Local folklore is that during the preparation of huge public feasts whenever the organizers fell short of Ghee, the water of the Kund used to be filled like Ghee & once the feast was over same quantity of Ghee used to be offered back into the Kund.
Surya Kund is huge and beautiful. It has large turtles and other aquatic creatures. Unfortunately the growth of urban dwellings has forced the people to encroach upon it’s catchments area. The sever nallah also falls into this magnificent kund causing pollution.
