Lord Krishna was a Chandravanshi and He often came here to play with His cowherd boys that is why the Kund is named Chandra Kund.
The Moon God (Chandra Dev) also came here to see the pastimes of Krishna. That is why this Kund is worshiped by Chandravanshis from ancient times.
This Kund is also surrounded by various temples such as Ganga Mandir & Hanuman Ji ki Bagichi.
Chandra Kund is huge and beautiful. It has large turtles and other aquatic creatures. Unfortunately the growth of urban dwellings has forced the people to encroach upon it’s catchments area. The sever nallah also falls into this magnificent kund causing pollution. From road side all drainage come into the kund.
The Braj Foundation’s team of architects, landscape designers and visual artists have conceived the beautification plan of this historic kund. We propose to de-silt the kund, diver the nallah, create pucca ghats, parikrama marg around it’s periophery, fountain to oxygenate the water, guard and caretaker’s room, small attached park and view point, diorama, pump room and heavy plantation around it’s parikrama.
We need about Rs 2.09 Crores for this project. The Braj Foundation is trying to raise the funds to complete the restoration and beautification work.
