History of the site
It is believed that Sri Radha Rani comes every night to take a dip in this kund and changes Her appearance to partake in Raasleela. This kund was last restored in medieval age by Raja Todarmal , the Finance Minister of King Akber. Till about two decades back the kund was fine but then a major flood came in the village and this kund was covered by the sand and silt braught by the flood. Since then none took care of it. Meanwhile it's grey stone ghats (steps) and embankment got dilapidated due to decades of neglect. The kund thus was cause of concern for the villagers, who approached the Braj Foundation.
History of the site
The Foundation started de-silting of this kund in March 2007, with the help of it's earth movers and with active participation of the local community. The digging was done till the natural aquifers were opened up. To the joy of one and all the water came in from the ground sources. After which the foundation approached the Revenue Dept. of Mathura Admn. Which removed the encroachments from it's catchment area.Braj Foundation got concrete posts fixed at the periphery and fixed the barbed wires to protect it's area. Proper plantation was done to beautify the surroundings. This entire activity was funded by Mr Kamal Morarka.
We propose to repair the ghats, set up a pump room and appoint gardener to maintain this area, fix a telescope which will show all the four temples of Radha Rani on Man Garh, Dan garh, Vilas Garh and Bhanu Garh and construct a open air stage for performances etc. This is the most picturesque site in Barsana, which has not been much explored by the tourists.
The Foundation requires about Rs 75 Lakhs for this project. You may contribute the same for the pleasure of Shri Radha Rani.
